While I’m Walking

A bullfrog croaks
magpies warble
currawongs call
cockatoos screech
rabbits scamper on silent feet
wattle birds cry

The creek burbles
a dove coos
kookaburras laugh
a rooster crows
a wallaby bounds ahead
cicadas buzz

and here
comes
the rain –
thank goodness
I’m home
again
