‘What I am Writing’

Fabulous author, Carole Wilkinson also asked me to write a blog post on ‘So what are you writing now.’

To be honest, I can’t remember ever being as busy as I am now with life, writing (and all that goes with it) and the judging of the Junior Categories of the Dorothea Mackellar competition.

Because I write picture books I do tend to write anytime and anywhere with ideas and scribbles on scraps of paper, notes on my iphone or ipad and editing my writing when I’m walking (I do actually take paper drafts with me most days when I walk, and because I write picture books, I can do that.)

So, I’ve finished another draft of a verse novel I’ve been working on for a while, researched some exciting information for ‘keeping-fingers-crossed’ projects, making final changes to a 2016 picture book and holding my breath to receive final illustrations on an exciting book coming out in March.

I am also writing launch speeches, launch lists for the August release of ‘Hey Dad, You’re Great’ for Father’s Day as well as two Christmas releases. I’d like to say that none of this has come quickly (one of the Christmas ones I began in 2008) but they do seem to be all coming together and I am counting my blessings.

So amongst the busy days and weeks and months, in the in-between-moments, wherever I can grab hold of them and be with my words, I am writing.

Like Karen, I am also quite superstitious about discussing what I’m writing about, often until I’m holding the finished version in my hands.

Authors and dear friends Karen Tayleur and Sue Lawson were also tagged by Carole, so you might like to have a peep at what they are up to as well.
