Visit to Box Hill South Ladies Probus Club

Today I presented to the ladies of the Box Hill South Probus Club in St. James Church Hall. While I was chatting to the lovely speaker organiser, Lynley, I remembered another Probus visit actually in a church and how I stood at the pulpit sprouting on about Queenie and the value of children’s books. I must admit that it felt definitely odd, as though I was doing something I shouldn’t have been doing, but there was also a part of me that saw the funny side and I somehow felt Queenie looking down on me.

Today, as always happens at these gatherings, I was once again surprised at the number of ladies present who had once ridden on Queenie’s back. Out of about 45 present, all those pictured (except me) 17 of them, rode Queenie. That’s about 35%, which is pretty amazing.

Queenie walked for almost 40 years, so it will always be my pleasure and privilege to share the writing of ‘Queenie One Elephant’s Story’ and to tell her tale, with those who knew her.
