Visit to Books Illustrated – 24 January, 2018
Today I had the pleasure of visiting the Anns, owners of Books Illustrated a wonderful institution that promotes Australian Picture Books and their creators – art and books for sale and exhibitions for hire.
You can find their showroom at 74 Mills Street, Albert Park where the No. 12 tram stops almost outside the door.
After stepping over the welcoming ‘Dog Mat’ at the doorway, I entered a room-feast of children’s books.
Mid year, Books Illustrated will be relocating. Needing to reduce their stock you’ll find many precious picture books (many hardbacks) that are on sale at wonderful prices – $5, $10, $15
I came away with a bag full of picture book treasures – The Stone Lion (to add to my Margaret Wild collection) illustrated by Ritva Voutila, Fox and Fine Feathers by the sadly missed Narelle Oliver and Heart of the Tiger by Glenda Millard and Gaye Chapman (also to add to my Glenda Millard collection) – just a few of the special books I chose.
Many are signed and it’s wonderful to spend time browsing and choosing and also looking at the limited edition prints.
If you’d like to visit, ring first to make a time, you’ll be pleased you did.

Talented illustrator, Anne Ryan also dropped by.
You never know who you might meet at Books Illustrated – even Horrible Harriet!
and a terrific postie who looks after all the mail.
