SCBWI Inside Story Event – 2nd November 2013 – The Little Bookroom, Carlton North

Last Saturday, November 2nd, the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators in conjunction with specialist bookshops across the world, launched Inside Story, a day where SCBWI children’s authors and illustrators gave insights into the inside story of creating their books.

The Melbourne event was wonderful. 14 authors and illustrators captivating an audience of around 60 – loyal SCBWI supporters, a lovely sprinkling of relatives and friends, teachers and librarians and even some passing wanderers as well as some gorgeous kids.

The cup day weekend for Melbourne is a difficult one and many people take the opportunity for a long weekend, however, the day was a success on every level – lots of fun, interaction with children and parents, teachers and librarians, The Little Bookroom staff busy selling books as well as preparing the bookshop and a captivated audience listening to SCBWI authors and illustrators share their ‘Inside Stories’.

I would like to thank Leesa for opening the doors of her gorgeous Bookshop, to Leslie (Leesa’s Mum) for her wonderful support, to Serena for that great programme (everyone took home a copy) and to Claire for always being there to lend a hand and gently pointing out to me that I couldn’t possibly be MC, speaker, and timekeeper as well as overall watcher, all at the same time.

Thank you also to the authors and illustrators, Goldie Alexander, Krista Bell, Sherryl Clark, Meredith Costain, Hazel Edwards, me – Corinne Fenton, Marjory Gardner, Serena Geddes, Nicky Johnston, Simon Mitchell, Claire Saxby, Renee Treml, Coral Vass and Annie White for sharing their ‘inside stories.’

Thank you all.
