Release day today for To the Bridge – a true story of 9 year old Lennie Gwyther and his remarkable pony – Ginger Mick

Like so many books, today is release day for To the Bridge, a picture book illustrated by the masterful Andrew McLean, published by Black Dog Books/Walker Books Australia and written by me.

To the Bridge is the true story of  9 year old Lennie Gwyther, who rode his faithful pony, Ginger Mick, 1000 kilometres, alone, to see the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

There were to be many celebrations for this important book which gives, in picture book format, a precious piece of our Australian social history – including a Sydney launch on 19 March, the 88th Anniversary of the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and at the REALM Library in Melbourne this Saturday.

We were fortunate to have one launch go ahead on 12 March in Leongatha which was where the story began. If you’d like to read more about this, please refer to my previous blog posts.

This book will still be out there for sale in our wonderful bookshops who will be posting out copies or of course, you can purchase online.
