New Zealand – South Island Holiday

I have recently returned from a road-trip holiday in the South Island of New Zealand with my husband. Some holidays are meant to be challenging and even before we left things started to go wrong, thankfully mostly just little things – hiccups if you like.

A quick summary – my first flight was delayed 4 hours, the reason, the airline had to repair a part on the plane and they were waiting for the glue to dry; the smelly rubbish bin in my hotel room in Sydney had been overlooked by the cleaner the night before; my husband’s luggage was lost for 5 days; the cyclone in Tonga also affected New Zealand so rain and grey skies followed us or greeted us at every ‘next place’ and all my clothes were for summer! One motel had a stinky bathroom, but as the motel was booked out we had to make do with a candle and an onion to hide the smell (it didn’t work); a parking ticket in Queenstown (we still can’t work out why); my suitcase was ruined on the return flight; and from the airport to home we had My Friend the Martian for a taxi driver!

Yes, there were some good times too and we did survive the helicopter ride over Mount Cook, so I shouldn’t complain, but gosh it’s good to be home.

So when we moved on to London for Christmas we couldn't leave our accommodation, had no energy at all. Thank goodness our 'accommodation' was a houseboat on the Thames, near Tower Bridge, so at least we had something to look at ...

  3. Errol Broome It sounds like one bad surprise after another. It's good to see you've looked (or tried, at least) into some of the better experiences. Just bad luck, Corinne. I'm sure better holidays lie ahead.

corinne Yes, I hope so too Errol. At least they were all small hiccups - health is the most important thing and being safe. x
