Leaving

I’ll miss the colours of autumn

splashed like an artist’s palette –

in winter I’ll miss the morning mist

caught in the valley –

in spring I’ll miss the cascade

shimmering gold from the wattles

. . . and in summer I’ll miss the laughter of children

as they float

down

the

river

in rainbow canoes.

But most of all

I’ll miss the kookaburras’ chorus,

the cockatoos swooping over our rooftop at dusk and dawn,

the honey-eaters sipping precious nectar from the bottle-brush,

our resident echidna,

watching the kangaroos

lazing supine

on Pound Bend

and the winding tracks

animal trails

and the blue-green hush

of Warrandyte.

  2. Marjory Lovely, Corinne. We do get the occasional kookaburra down this way, plus heaps of parrots, corellas and other native birds, so you won't miss out entirely!

  3. Alexandra How beautiful must share this with my family and friends. We used to live in Warranwood. Warrandyte was always a favourite place of ours to take my family and dog, Kaila.
