Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition

Monday was the final day for poetry submissions for the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition and as the judge for the junior categories I can officially say that so far I’ve read 4059 poems from primary school children from all over Australia. I am still waiting for the poems entered by mail, which will soon be uploaded by Dorothea Mackellar volunteers (last year there were 2000 of these!)

So then comes the really exciting (and really difficult) part – looking through my shortlists, reducing them and deciding which poems will rejoin the ‘read’ group, which will be Commended, Highly Commended, Runners Up and Winners.

Very exciting although I do have rhymes constantly dancing in my head.

  1. christinemareebell Wow, Corinne. What a fantastic response to the Dorothea MacKellar comp and what a hugely brilliant effort by you and the senior's judge to read and judge so many.
