Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards 2015

Once again I have the honour of being the judge for the Junior Categories of the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards and with fellow author Nette Hilton (Senior Categories) we will be reading and judging thousands of poems from students all over Australia.

‘This annual poetry competition for school aged children is a unique national project, giving Australia’s youth a voice and an opportunity to strive for excellence in literature. The 2015 competition opened on March 1st and closes on June 30th.

This year the optional theme is ‘the open door’. Thank you everyone for taking part in the 2014 poetry competition. More than 8,500 poems were submitted by 600 schools from all over Australia.’

All the details for entering can be found at the website http://www.dorothea.com.au/  I believe anyone can write and improve their poetry by rewriting and rewriting it and making it the best it can be – and the ones that come from the heart are always the best.
