Ballarat Visit – Collins Booksellers Ballarat on Lydiard Storytime and Young Authors Workshop at Ballarat Library
Last week I had the privilege of traveling to Ballarat for book events.
My first appointment was to deliver a Storytime Session at the beautiful Collins Booksellers Ballarat on Lydiard store always an essential stop on any trip to Ballarat. Do treat yourself if you haven’t been before or again if you have.
I was joined by Honey the Story Dog, standing in for Maverick, the narrative voice of Lionel and Me and her wonderful owner Jacqui. A group of pre-schoolers arrived with their parents to listen to me read, cuddle Honey and do some wonderful craft activities surrounding the book. Link to teaching notes and craft activities is: http://d.site-cdn.net/916339b02a/a13ed7/lionel_tn-copy.pdf It was a lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon.
The real Maverick.
The following morning I strolled to the Ballarat Library to be one of the presenters at the Young Authors Workshop with year 5/6 students from a number of local schools. They came with their own creative ideas and were keen to write, some of them choosing quiet spaces and hidden corners within the library, to write. Something I would have absolutely done as a student. I still seek quiet places to write.
