A precious letter from a ‘Queenie: One Elephant’s Story’ fan

As a writer, sometimes unexpected and special messages are sent by snail-mail or more often now, lovely emails drop into our inboxes.

On Monday I had the surprising pleasure of finding one of those precious emails from a mother telling me about her little boy and his connection with my book ‘Queenie: One Elephant’s Story.’

Here are the email exchanges: (names with-held).

Thought you might like to see a picture of my son on 'queenie'.

He said 'mum I'll have a ride on queenie and make sure no kids
stick pins in her trunk'

He loves the book and one day we were in town and he pointed
out flinders st stn and said 'mum queenie went past here!'

Hello,
Thank you for sending the photo of your son on 'Queenie.'
I really wish there was a statue of her at the zoo for all to see.
It's always lovely to hear about children engaging with
my books, especially Queenie.
Very best wishes,
Corinne

He just loves it, as well as all the others, he's still trying to get
Abby (our blue Heeler) to stay sitting on a box! When that photo op
arises I'll send that one through too!

Please feel free to post the pic. Might get other parents
thinking about reading queenie to their children so the token pic
on an elephant means something to them
X
