Where I Live
I live on the edge of the city of Melbourne. Our house is surrounded by the bush and from the deck I can watch kangaroos grazing, I feed families of kookaburras from the back door and we also have a peacock which wanders freely about the properties in the court. It is a very noisy peacock!
Ideas
Ideas seem to pop into my head at the strangest times. I love the feeling of having an idea that I just 'have' to write down immediately, before it is lost. I often get ideas just as I'm falling to sleep – most times I get up and write it down.
I often get ideas when I'm walking along the winding country roads where I live and I don't always have paper and pen with me. At these times I have to keep them in my head and run back home as fast as I can and turn on my computer before I lose them. This also has the advantage of keeping me fit!
Writing
I feel privileged that I can do something which I feel so passionate about. I think if you can combine your passion and your career, you are very fortunate. I used to write poetry at school, and that's how a lot of authors begin.
Years later I went back to school and completed a Professional Writing and Editing Course.
My idea of a perfect day is to sit with a new picture book text, trying to find exactly the right word for the right spot!
My idea of heaven!!!!!!
